Elon Musk and Donald Trump have broken up!

So in case you missed it, billionaire Elon Musk has stepped down from his “special government employee” role in the US government. 

Musk had been heading the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE since January. And now a little over four months later, he’s handing in his badge. 

President Donald Trump had created DOGE to try and cut government spending. And Elon went in with a machete and not scissors.

About two million federal employees have been laid off since Musk took charge. Some agencies had staff cuts of up to 86%. 

Agencies like the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention took major hits. Then there’s the Department of Education, which had nearly half of its workforce laid off.

All of this was part of DOGE’s broader strategy to streamline government operations and reduce spending. But it’s not like it was smooth sailing for Musk. Tesla’s sales went down.  Some people said they didn’t want to buy from a company connected to politics. Tesla showrooms were even attacked.

But Trump and Elon seemed to be locked in UNTIL… Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill.

We talked about the budget recently. The proposed law included major tax cuts and more money for the military, which Musk said would increase the national debt by trillions of dollars. 

He’s even gone as far now to call the bill a “disgusting abomination” saying it goes against everything DOGE is trying to do.

So now Musk says he’s spending more time focusing on his businesses. 

And that’s the bottom line.
