Omni Industries expands exports

Jamaican manufacturing company Omni Industries is making big moves in the region, starting with strong progress in Guyana.

Omni manufactures and distributes plastic houseware and industrial items. It’s the only Jamaican company making many of these products locally. It also supplies materials to the construction industry, such as water and sewer pipes.

Speaking on Taking Stock with Kalilah Reynolds, Managing Director, Patrick Kumst said the company recently shipped its first container to the growing South American market. Now, it’s preparing to send a second.

“We’ve had some exciting times. We broke into Guyana’s export market as promised, and the feedback has been great,” he said

The company’s success in Guyana is helping to balance out slowdowns in Jamaica’s construction industry. With Guyana’s economy booming thanks to oil discoveries and increased infrastructure work, Omni saw an opportunity to expand. Kumst and his business partner travelled to Guyana to explore the market, and the gamble paid off.

Kumst said Guyana is now receiving several of Omni’s top products. These include construction buckets, garden hoses, laundry tubs, and baby baths. The company is also in talks with local bakeries and breweries to supply new items like bread trays and beverage crates.

The company has been using money raised during its IPO (Initial Public Offering) to grow. One big investment was a new injection molding machine—the largest one they’ve bought. This machine helps make bigger crates and adds 20% more production capacity to the factory.

Their first Annual General Meeting (AGM) as a public company will be held on July 31.

Kumst said the company hopes exports will make up 15% of sales by the end of 2025.

“The sky’s the limit when it comes to Guyana,” he said. “We see a lot more potential.”
