Anthropic is putting US$100 million behind training 10,000 AI engineers—and the Caribbean should be paying attention.

Anthropic, the company behind Claude, has launched the Claude Frontier Academy. Its goal is to train 10,000 people called Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027.

That title sounds complicated. But the job is straightforward: help businesses turn an AI idea into something that actually works.

Because buying an AI subscription is one thing. Connecting it to your company’s systems, protecting customer information, training your staff and making sure it delivers results? That takes a different level of expertise.

Anthropic says finding people with those skills has become a major challenge for businesses adopting AI.

Its programme starts with practical, in-person training, followed by a twelve-week residency where engineers work on a real Claude project inside their own organisation. The first groups include engineers from Accenture, Deloitte and Morgan Stanley.

This is aimed at experienced software engineers, and participation is through nomination by their organisations.

Here’s why I think this matters for the Caribbean.

We talk a lot about using AI to write emails, create content or answer questions. Those tools are useful. But the opportunity goes much further.

I’m already using AI at Money Media to build systems and workflows for our team. It’s helping us become more productive, work more efficiently, save a lot of time, and earn more.

And that experience has shown me how valuable it is to understand your business well enough to identify where AI can help.

Imagine a distributor using it to help process orders. A hotel connecting it to booking information to answer guest questions. Or an insurance company using it to organise documents for a human reviewer.

Each of those possibilities needs someone who understands the technology AND the business.

Who connects the systems? Who checks the output? Who decides which information the AI can access—and when a person needs to step in?

That’s where implementation skills come in.

There’s also a business reason for Anthropic to make this investment. More people who know how to put Claude to work means more businesses that can become paying customers.

For us, the opportunity is to build the expertise to solve problems for Caribbean companies—and potentially sell those services overseas.

Our universities, training institutions and employers should be thinking about how to develop that talent through real projects.

The lesson? Learning to use AI is a starting point. Learning to make it work reliably inside a business could become a valuable career and a business opportunity.

And that’s the bottom line.

What’s one task in your workplace you’d like AI to help with?
