Carreras Makes Big Money As Jamaicans Turn to Vapes and Cigarettes
2025 is off to a good start for Carreras. The company brought in over $4 billion in revenue for its first quarter, $1.4 billion of which was net profit.
The company is building on its record breaking 2024, which saw over $19.5 billion in revenue and more than $6.2 billion in profit.
Carreras sells cigarettes and now also sells vapes, which they started offering in September 2023. The new vape product, called Vuse, has been doing better than the company expected. Even though the number of cigarettes being sold has stayed about the same, Carreras is making more money by raising prices and selling the new vapes.
Speaking on Taking Stock with Kalilah Reynolds, David Rose said, “The vaping side of the business is now catching on and delivering actual profitable returns to Carreras.”
The company’s stock price is also doing very well. Carreras’s stock price has doubled from about $8 last year, and now it’s trading around $16.
One big reason for this success is that more people are using Carreras products during hard times. When people are stressed or worried about money, they often turn to things like smoking or drinking to cope. David Rose explained it this way: “People are trying to deal with their stress… and it’s pretty rough. People are under pressure.”
Carreras pays out a lot of money to its shareholders, too. In 2024, the company had a dividend yield of over 6%, which is one of the highest on the Jamaica Stock Exchange. That means people who own Carreras stock are getting paid well.
“In hard times, “sin companies” like Carreras become the kings of the hill,” Rose added.
