Digicel pivots to digital communications

Digital transformation is a big niche for developers across the world. But just what is this digital transformation we keep hearing about? This is the collaboration of digital technology into business sectors, ideally changing how their customers are reached and impacted.

Chief Digital Officer (CDO) for the Digicel Group, Aileen Corrigan, was the guest on Episode 3 of the Digicel Masterclass, speaking of the company’s overall dynamics especially during the pandemic and its move in becoming not just a telecommunications provider, but digital communicator.

“Plans will change,” said Corrigan, as she walked viewers through Digicel’s new digital move.

The telecommunications giant will use their newly branded platform to maintain a hold across the telecoms market as they seek to gain and retain customers. Making use of big data analytics is key to finding hidden patterns, trends and customer preferences, she added.

But just how can this be achieved? Corrigan mentioned that it has become paramount to have third party partners.  According to Corrigan, Digicel is using Microsoft Azure, which she says is 14% faster and costs 94% less than other cloud providers. This move is a part of its global ‘Cloud First’ strategy which delivers cloud usage to both its company and users.

So just what in the clouds is this ‘cloud’? The cloud is a virtual space or network which hosts a variety of services such as storage, software, servers and analytics, reducing the need for physical space while improving productivity, performance and reliability.

Corrigan says that this big data analysis will continue to be a key driving force for Customer Value and Loyalty strategies. She added that Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) have been integral in making this upgrade a reality.

Along with her achievements across the Digicel Group, Corrigan is also CEO of Trend Media Group which has been instrumental in Loop News’ rise on the digital media landscape. She has also been recognised by Constellation Research for its 2021 Business Transformation 150 (BT150) for her leading digital agenda in Jamaica and the Caribbean.

“We have to go outside our comfort zone,” said Corrigan.
