Agostini’s Fast Food Takeover Bid!

July 2, 2025

Two of Trinidad and Tobago's biggest companies are making major moves. Agostini Limited has launched a takeover bid for Prestige Holdings, the operator of KFC, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Subway, and TGI Fridays across the Caribbean.

What does this mean for investors, the stock market, and the region’s fast food landscape?

Let’s break it down.

Two Trinidadian powerhouses are joining forces.

Agostini Limited has announced plans to acquire Prestige Holdings. For the non-Trini viewers, Agostini is a conglomerate with businesses in health care, food, and household products across the Caribbean. They’re in Trinidad, Barbados, St Lucia, Jamaica, Guyana and several other countries.

Meanwhile, Prestige owns and operates fast food restaurants like KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway, and Starbucks.

Agostini is trying to take a majority stake in Prestige through a takeover bid. They’re offering Prestige shareholders one Agostini share for every 4.8 PHL shares.

Both Agostini and Prestige are listed on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange, and if the deal goes through, things will change. Agostini plans to buy up most of Prestige’s shares, at least 90% that aren’t already owned by Agostini or its partners.

If that happens, Prestige will be removed from the stock exchange. But like I said, those shareholders will get Agostini shares and will still have exposure to Prestige.

This is a big move for Agostini. They’ll get control of the 136 restaurants and over 3,300 workers in Prestige’s portfolio. Plus, they’ll also save money by sharing things like delivery trucks, storage spaces, and marketing.

And Prestige has been doing very well lately. According to the company’s unaudited six-month financial report for the period ended May 31, 2025, they made TT$51 million in profits before tax so far this year. That’s about US$7.5 million.

After taxes, profit was TT$35 million.

The offer opened on June 16 and will stay open until July 21.

And that’s the bottom line.
