Dangote’s Refinery Is Going Public. Would You Invest?

Africa’s richest man is offering investors a piece of the continent’s largest oil refinery.

Whenever I post videos about African business opportunities, the response is huge. My previous videos about Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, attracted especially strong interest.

Now, investors are being offered an opportunity to own shares in his massive oil refinery.
Nigeria has approved the initial public offering of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, expected to be Africa’s biggest IPO ever.

Dangote plans to sell 4.1 billion shares at 525 naira each, potentially raising approximately US$1.6 billion. The offer opens September 14 and closes October 13, with trading on the Nigerian Exchange expected to begin in late November.

But can Jamaicans invest?
Not through a regular Jamaican brokerage account. You would generally need an account with a Nigerian broker or another authorised broker offering access to Nigerian securities. You would also have to satisfy that institution’s identification, funding and foreign-investor requirements.

The refinery cost approximately US$20 billion and currently processes around 700,000 barrels of crude oil daily. It reportedly earned US$1.82 billion during the first half of 2026 and plans to double its capacity by 2029.

However, the IPO values the business at approximately US$47 billion, so investors must decide whether its growth prospects justify that price.
