What if I told you a local Jamaican gas station company just dropped $300 million on a very profitable location everyone else abandoned?

Regency Petroleum is making major moves (financially, strategically and physically).  They’re investing $300 million to build a brand new service station right by the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston!

Now, you might be thinking: Wait, didn’t other fuel brands pull out of that area years ago?

Totally true. But the old logic was that motorists top up before heading down the Palisadoes Road, leaving zero demand on the way back. But Regency is rewriting that narrative.

Instead of just selling petrol, they’re bringing a lifestyle hub to the city’s gateway. The layout includes six double-sided pumps, a convenience store, an expansive food court, and an undisclosed fast-food franchise. Plus, this spot is going to double as Regency’s brand-new corporate headquarters!

Once it opens, it will be the only gas station within a 6-kilometer radius, giving them a total monopoly on hungry travelers and commuters in that zone.

CEO Andrew Williams noted that clearing has already started, tanks are on site, and the project should be completed in 12 to 18 months—even with the challenge of digging through deep, sandy soil.

And business is already booming for them overall. Regency recently reported record revenues of $2 billion and a net profit jump of 32% to $114 million.

So, the bottom line is that Regency is taking a calculated risk on an overlooked location—and expanding into retail and food services. It remains to be seen if this will unlock the growth they’re seeking.

And that’s what’s new!

Do you think putting a mega-station by the airport is a smart move for Regency?
