Partner with a US business – Here’s how!
Have you ever wondered how local corporations establish a presence in different parts of the world? Well it’s no secret! All it requires is a strategic trade deal or partnership. As a start-up enterprise, you might not find yourself in a room with the global partners that can catapult your business. But sometimes, those partners come to you. You can usually find them at trade shows and business expos hosted by local sector leaders.
In some cases, local businesses are required to meet investors on their turf, racking up travel expenses like airfare and accommodation. However, this year AMCHAM Jamaica in collaboration with the US Department of Commerce and the US Embassy plans to host a virtual trade mission.
The mission will be held in Jamaica on December 1. It is part of a wider Virtual Caribbean Trade Mission. The aim is to position Jamaican businesses as viable alternatives for U.S. partners looking to take advantage of near shoring.
“Our location is key especially at a time when a lot of countries are looking to identify regional partners that are closer to them….” said Ann-Dawn Young Sang, President of AMCHAM Jamaica in an interview with Kalilah Reynolds Media.
She said the virtual trade show promises to be more intimate, allowing local businesses to block their time with a wide array of industry professionals, exchange contacts and follow up on agreements and trade deals with no distraction.
“A lot of companies in the U.S. are saving up their funds because they are getting ready to invest for 2021,” said Young Sang.
She said based on preliminary discussions, investors are looking for new opportunities and new supply chains. Consequently, local firms are encouraged to sell themselves.
The virtual trade mission will be hosted on a platform provided by the U.S. commercial services offices and the U.S. Embassy. In previous missions, the platform has hosted as many as 160 companies. Mrs. Young Sang hopes to accommodate even more companies this time around.
The virtual trade mission will feature a moderated panel discussion with businessman Michael Lee Chin as keynote speaker, Government Ministers, representatives from the United States and various sector speakers.
Email secretariat@amchamjamaica.org or call 929-7866-7 to register. The cost is US$100 for AmCham members and US$200 for non-members.
